You don't need Blu-ray

really...you don't. The only reason we need DVD is because we, as consumers, have allowed the corporate media makers to convince us that we needed the technology...when we don't.

VHS is a great technology. What?!? you ask??? This is what I mean...I've got VHS tapes dating back 15 or more years that still play. They've been thrown around, stepped on, handled by the kids etc...and yet they still work. Occasionally I've had to splice a broken tape or stuff it back into the casing because of a child's curiosity with that mysterious brown metallic ribbon...but, the tape has kept playing. Give a child a DVD or a CD to play with and within minutes that nice shiny playing surface can be scratched and marred to such a degree that your disc is now a $20 drink coaster. I understand that Blu-ray is supposed to have a "protective layer"...but, I have my doubts about that :)

Also, do you really need all of the menu and info options that Blu-ray is touting and all of the extra hours of feature extras? Are you kidding me? Why would we need this...most people barely have the time to just watch the movie itself?

And another thing...Why do we need higher definition? I'd argue that most people can't even tell the difference between a VHS movie a DVD let alone a DVD from a Blu-ray. I'd even argue that too much definition is bad for the viewing experience. I was watching a store display of a high-def TV playing a Blu-ray movie of Spiderman III...at the part where the sandman guy was swirling around in that grain silo...and I thought that the high definition of every CG grain particle was distracting and uncomfortable to the eye -- I couldn't watch too much of that, yikes! Along those line...there are several TV personalities and movie stars that just shouldn't be portrayed in high-def -- you know what I mean....I'm sure we've all seen one or more of those extreme closeups on some personality and said, "Woa! Back off camera...Too close!"

Send the media companies a message and don't buy into Blu-ray, HD, or whatever is next (you know something else is wating to replace Blu-ray someday).

Be satisfied with what you got -- there's nothing wrong with that.

Life Lessons learned from watching Horror Films

  1. Don't split up...that's when everything goes from bad to worse
  2. When in a creepy place (local haunted\abandoned house etc.), don't have sex...those people always go first
  3. Related to #2: it's always good to be a virgin or to bring one along...that person usually has the power to break the current curse
  4. Be able to run faster than at least one other person...in case you can't break the curse :)
  5. Go for the head: A head shot or decapitation usually stops the bad guy\zombie\creature
  6. Until you've removed the head, don't stand idly by the slain bad guy\zombie\creature...they're most likely going to cure their wounds and attack again
  7. If cornered, always lie to the bad guy\zombie\creature...when they ask "join me or die", say "OK" and then wait for an opportunity to betray them later. Don't say, "No way scum! Death to you and your legions!" as this only invites anger and certain death.
  8. ??? You got any more ???

Who Killed the Electric Car?

Have you seen this documentary yet, http://www.whokilledtheelectriccar.com?

I'm ashamed of owning a GM car after watching this -- I will not buy another.

Pictured here is an EV1 -- GM started it in 1996...and just 10 years later had successfully killed almost all traces of it. Ooo, they make me so mad!

New Song -- Questionaire

I have these lyrics swimming in my head...but, I can't decide if it's POP, Metal, ???

When they came to me I was thinking some form of Rock \ Metal -- Maybe something like DIO, Dokken, or some other 80's rockers etc. But then the next day I had some more Pop melodies in my head. If you have any thoughts, let me know:

You know I'm no good for you
You know that I'll destroy you
You know that you should...fly away...

You knew it from the start
That I would break your heart
You knew that you should...fly away...

fly away...fly away...fly away...fly away...

If you hang around to see
I'll take you down with me
And you'll wish you had...flown away...

You'll feel the burning fire
Of unreachable desire
And you'll wish that you had...flown away...

flown away...flown away...flown away...flown away...

[Guitar Solo]

You decided you should stay
And you curbed my evil ways
And I'm glad you didn't...fly away...

My soul's internal fire
Won't be my funeral pyre
Because you didn't...fly away...

fly away...fly away...fly away...fly away...

Someone at Stouffer's LEAN Cuisine messed up

I found these at the store tonight...The "Teriyaki" box shows the chicken on a bed of noodles; The "Chow Mein" box shows the chicken on a bed of rice??? Hmmm, do they know what Chow Mein or Teriyaki is?

From Wikipedia:
Chow mein (also known as chao mian in Chinese-speaking communities) is a generic Chinese term for a dish of stir-fried noodles, of which there are many varieties.
Also from Wikipedia:
Teriyaki (kanji: き; hiragana: てりやき) is a cooking technique used in Japanese cuisine in which foods are broiled or grilled in a sweet soy sauce marinade (tare in Japanese).

*Notice how the chicken in the "Chow Mein" box looks like it has a teriyaki sauce on it...while the "Teriyaki" box, above, appears to be lacking the teriyaki.

Hmmm, Stouffer's needs a little quality control?

Investment tips for 2008

With all the turmoil in the market today and the collapse of Lehman Bros and Acquisition of Merrill Lynch by Bank of America this might be some good advice. For all of you with any money left, be aware of the next expected mergers so that you can get in on the ground floor and make some BIG bucks.

Watch for these consolidations in later this year:

1.) Hale Business Systems, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Fuller Brush, and W R. Grace Co.

Will merge and become: Hale, Mary, Fuller, Grace.

2.) Polygram Records, Warner Bros., and Zesta Crackers join forces and become: Poly, Warner Cracker.

3.) 3M will merge with Goodyear and become: MMMGood.

4. Zippo Manufacturing, Audi Motors, Dofasco, and Dakota Mining will merge and become: ZipAud iDoDa .

5. FedEx is expected to join its competitor, UPS, and become: FedUP.

6. Fairchild Electronic's and Honeywell Computers will become: Fairwell Honeychild.

7. Grey Poupon and Docker Pants are expected to become: PouponPants.

8. Knotts Berry Farm and the National Organization of Women will become: Knott NOW!

Senate bailout bill hits the Internet; Update: File added; Update: Not earmarks?

posted at 10:24 am on October 1, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

The Senate will begin debate within minutes on their attempt to revive the bailout bill rejected by the House. They have released the bill text this morning, and the Senate Conservatives Fund website has it for public perusal. The new version has no allocations going to the Housing Trust Fund, which the Dodd version originally did, so ACORN will get no money from the bailout.

However, the Senate did add a few winners to this new version:

New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill
- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

Biker-Smoker

I was driving home from work yesterday and noticed a bicyclist standing in the shade, holding his fancy 10-speed in one hand and toking on a cigarette with the other. I found the scene rather funny and started singing to myself (in a punk rock\speed metal beat):

Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
It's not a good idea.

Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker

I like to ride my bike and I like to smoke cig's too
I can really feel the burn, when the tar fills up my lungs

I'm saving fuel.
And the environment too.
But, I'm killing myself as well.

Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
Biker-smoker, Biker-smoker
It's not a good idea.

Very similar to this the silliness of this picture:

Maybe I'll put it to music???

Wipeout...The BEST TV game show in decades

Tuesdays, on ABC...Wipeout is gameshow, obstacle course, sport comedy that can keep my whole family entertained the whole 60 minutes.

I can't get enough of the show. Besides the funny slapstick humor of people just killing themselves to get through the course, the commentary from the two John's and the roving reporter on the course is just hilarious.

Wow! Ford quality is now equal to Toyota...

VS

What an embarrassment! I just saw a Ford car commercial and they think it's great to advertise that the quality of their cars are now equal to that of Toyota -- I think I'd keep that to myself if I were Ford.

Basically, they're saying, "Hey world, we started this whole mass produced car thing and have had all these years to be better than everyone else...we convinced everyone for awhile that we were the only\best choice, thus quality could drop and sales wouldn't...then a foreign country, Japan, comes into the industry and soon becomes known as the best quality car, or at least better than us...and then we needed to catch up to them, because American's were buying more of their cars than ours...and now we have, so buy our cars again."
