Lame Duck Sessions are "Lame"

There's a great John Woo film called "Broken Arrow" -- if you haven't seen it, you should check it out.

One of my favorite scenes goes like this:
  • Actor 1 - "What's a Broken Arrow?"
  • Actor 2 - "That's what we call it when we lose a nuclear warhead."
  • Actor 1 - "I don't know what's scarier...the fact that we've lost one, or the fact that we lose one often enough that we have a name for it."
I think we should feel the same way about a lame duck session of our governing body.

Did we elect a bunch of kinder-gardeners into office...so they could bicker, kick, and whine for us? Or, did we elect a group of mature adults to collectively work together to make our lives, country, and world better than what we could do individually -- on our own?

Election 2008

Colin Powell says he questions McCain's judgment for picking Palin...

Tina Fey says, Palin's as smart as she is...and that's not smart enough...

Does anyone, in their right mind, think the Republicans have a chance?

Senate bailout bill hits the Internet; Update: File added; Update: Not earmarks?

The Senate will begin debate within minutes on their attempt to revive the bailout bill rejected by the House. They have released the bill text this morning, and the Senate Conservatives Fund website has it for public perusal. The new version has no allocations going to the Housing Trust Fund, which the Dodd version originally did, so ACORN will get no money from the bailout.

However, the Senate did add a few winners to this new version:

New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill
- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark “extenders” in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

Racism isn't dead in America

A booth at this weekend’s Texas Republican convention

sold buttons asking, “If Obama Is President…Will We Still Call It The White House?”:

The 2008 Presidential Election

Does anyone else think it's sad...that in this day and age we're considering it a momentous event that a black man or a woman may actually become president. Come on how racist and sexist are we still???

Two qualified people are running for president -- One happens to be a black man and the other is a white woman...Oooo, heaven forbid that someday a black woman applies for the job. I think it's time we stop making a big deal out of things like this and remember we're all brother's and sister's in the same earth family...We're all capable of doing whatever we want, no matter our color, race or sex.

Did you notice Obama's TV ad change...

from "Barack Obama. President" to "Barack Obama. For President"? It's that ad he runs with the hip\cool music and his voice is overlayed in a very motivating and even inspiring tone.

I remember being shocked the first time I saw it because it didn't say "for" President...he was basically calling himself President -- pretty sneaky \ presumptuous I think.

Someone corrected him though...or slapped his wrist...because the same ad now say "for President"

If I can find a copy of the ad I'll post it.

The British are Coming

No offence to you americans, I love most of you and you can give it back to England as much as you want this is just a joke.

Dear Citizens of America,

In view of your failure to elect a competent President and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately.

Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except Kansas, which she does not fancy), as from Monday next.

Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour', 'favour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise."

3. You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra'; you may elect to spell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you find you simply can't cope with correct pronunciation.

4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.

5. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."

6. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen",
but only after fully carrying out Task #1 (see above).

7. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd will
be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will be called "Come-Uppance Day."

8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean.

11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables... Both roundabouts and metrification will help you understand the British sense of humour.

12. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling "gasoline") - roughly $8/US per gallon. Get used to it.

13. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call french fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with malt vinegar.

14. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.

15. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.

16. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors as English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ear removed with a cheese grater.

17. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind of proper football; you call it "soccer". Those of you brave enough, in time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of Jessies - English slang for "Big Girls Blouse").

18. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the "World Series" for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware that there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable and forgiven.

19. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

20. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due, backdated to 1776.

Thank you for your co-operation.

John Cleese

Who thinks Michelle Obama should leave the country?

This is a rush transcript of "Special Report With Brit Hume" from February 19, 2008. This copy may not be in its final form and may be updated.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MICHELLE OBAMA, WIFE OF SEN. BARACK OBAMA: And let me tell you something: for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country, because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.

CINDY MCCAIN, WIFE OF SEN. JOHN MCCAIN: I'm proud of my country. I don't know about you, if you heard those words earlier — I'm very proud of my country.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

I'm with Cindy! I say we send Michelle to the country of her choice...Maybe she'd be happier in Iraq???

Yeah! Romney has quit...

What a loser...I thought he wanted to win? I wouldn't have voted for him anyway...but, what a chump for quitting! Nice example setting there, LOL.

Checkout his web site, Team Mitt...more like Team _ _ it :D

His banner is "True strength for America's future" -- what did he mean, future of quitters?

All I can say is...The free world is now a safer place!

Ever heard of Ron Paul

One of my kids asked me if Ron Paul was running for President? I said, "I don't know...never heard of the guy." Then I found his web site and many YouTube videos about him -- I like the guy now. I'm a very un-political and anti-sports kindof guy...but, on first glance, Ron Paul speaks to me.
